This course is a verse-by-verse, book-by-book journey through the entire New Testament. It’s taught with the conviction that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, and sufficient word of God, and that it was written by real people in real places about real events. Most importantly, it can be understood by anyone willing to study it. Thomas brings thirty years of teaching the Bible to students of every age, along with a lifelong love of using commentaries, histories, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and more.

Rather than treating the New Testament as a list of disconnected books, this class walks through history step-by-step. Students begin in the Gospels, move into Acts, then watch Paul’s letters take shape in real time as he plants churches and responds to real situations on his missionary journeys. Along the way, Thomas shows how deeply the New Testament writers leaned on the Old Testament by quoting it and often structuring their books around it.

Each lesson weaves together the tools students need to read Scripture well: the historical events surrounding the text, the culture that informs it, the archaeology that expands it, the geography that shapes it, and the theology that impels it. Students will learn the essential method for interpreting any passage of Scripture: the historical, grammatical, and theological approach to the Bible. And they will be given the tools to do this work on their own.

The only required text is a study Bible. Thomas also shares a wealth of free and recommended resources (dictionaries, atlases, commentaries, and more) for students to use to study the text. Yet this class seeks much more than that: Thomas desires that your student would grow not just in knowledge of the New Testament, but in his or her relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

Theological Note: Thomas approaches the text from a literal, historical, and creedal perspective. He affirms plenary inspiration, inerrancy, infallibility, and scriptural clarity. In light of that, he seeks to present the New Testament in a way that would be pleasing to all who take the Bible to be the Word of God.
