Description
Southern Hemisphere Geography is a live lecture and picture-based class that will cover basic world geography and the topography, nations, capitals, and culture of South America, Africa, Oceania, and Antarctica. Students will take weekly notes on each nation, create regular portfolio entries, take regular geography quizzes, and complete an end-of-year project.

- Portfolios: map assignment for each nation that illustrate natural wonders, culture, and history with 5 items.
- Quizzes: given every few lessons on the nations, capital cities, and various topographical features studied

Class Details
Credit: 1 Credit in Middle School Geography or Social Studies
Ages: 11-14, grades 6-8 (This course is taught at the middle school level.)
Course prerequisites: None.
The class will meet weekly over Zoom on Thursdays, from 1:00 PM – 2:10 PM Central Standard Time, according to the schedule below.

About the Instructor
Dave Raymond lives in rural Middle Tennessee with his wife and 6 children where he has taught the humanities for the past 20 years. He teaches the disciplines of history, literature, composition, and Latin through Quiller Tutorials.
Required Books/Resources
Colored pencils for map drawing/labeling. Possibly a free geography app for iOS/Android devices.

Frequently Asked Questions
What if I can’t attend the live Zoom sessions?
All the sessions will be recorded and posted for enrolled students to watch at their convenience. You can use the recordings to review or catch up if you missed a session.
Students who can’t make the schedule above can still participate in the class assignments and group discussions by watching the recordings and submitting the assignments to Dave.
Recording access expires 6 weeks after the last live session.
What kinds of assignments and assessments are included?
Assignments include map work, quizzes, portfolios, and a final project. All are designed to help students develop a solid understanding of the geography, cultures, and histories of Europe and Asia.
Will my student receive a final grade?
Yes! Dave Raymond will provide a suggested final grade based on submitted assignments and participation. Since this is a live homeschool course, the parent has the final authority and may use this grade as part of their student’s official transcript or records.
Is there a minimum enrollment required?
All live classes are subject to minimum enrollment in order to hold. If minimum enrollment is not reached before the first scheduled session, all students will be notified and refunded completely.
Do you offer refunds on live classes?
We think you will love this class. You may request a refund for a live course any time before the second scheduled class session after your purchase. This gives you the chance to experience an entire live class session to make your decision.
