Join a Group! Support for Students in Self-Paced Classes

We are pleased to announce all our Facilitated Groups are now available to students currently enrolled in our self-paced classes. If you’re not familiar with Groups, they are part of My Compass Classroom that provides students with additional engagement and support. To join a Group, your student must be logged into MyCC and enrolled in the related course. For instance, to join the Modernity Group, he or she must be enrolled in the Modernity class.

Groups enable students to:

  • Ask questions about the material
  • Share their work with other students and teachers for feedback
  • Discuss topics with other students and facilitators
  • Participate in periodic Zoom meetings (for Groups that offer that)

I personally oversee a few of the Groups myself. In our Story of Great Music group, I like sharing recommendations for what I’m listening to that week. Students in our Creation Science group regularly ask me thorny questions, sometimes bringing up topics that are not covered in the class. This type of interaction is one of the things I miss from teaching in the classroom. I’m pleased we can bring part of it back through our MyCC platform.

The American History group is one of the most active groups with students sharing portfolios and making comments. This Group includes a regular Zoom meeting where facilitators and students chat about all sorts of things related to the class. Each Group is a little different based on the needs of the kids taking the class at that time.

Our hope is that Groups can provide your kids the support they need while going through our classes at their own pace.

If you’d like your son or daughter to join one of these groups, search for the particular group on our main Groups page, then choose to join it.  Note that access is limited to students currently enrolled in that particular class.  If you have a membership, all groups are available to you, you just need to make sure that particular class is assigned to them.  If you have any question, don’t hesitate to reach out to us on the A to Z Homeschool Helpdesk Group.
