Description
This is a Live Course for the 2024-2025 academic year.
In this class, Dwane will attempt to read through the first fifteen chapters of Lingua Latina by Hans Ørberg. This will build on what students have learned in Visual Latin. Since Latin influences so many other languages, there will be frequent discussion of French, Spanish, Italian and, of course, English. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, we will practice speaking to each other in Latin. Since Latin is no longer a spoken language, there will be no pressure on those days. This simply gives students the opportunity to think in Latin. This will be a challenge. Multiple choice tests and test keys are available for every chapter.
The live course consists of:
- 31 weeks of classes with lecture, discussion, and conversation (see schedule below)
- Weekly conversations with Dwane and other students, requiring practice of textbook material
- Multiple choice tests and keys for every textbook chapter
- Final grade submitted to parents for their records
The class will meet over GoToMeeting each Monday through Thursday from 9:30 AM – 9:55 AM Central Standard Time, according to the schedule below. The format will be readings and conversation each week.
Course Prerequisites
Completion of Visual Latin.
Required Books
- Lingua Latina per se Illustrata, Pars I: Familia Romana by Hans Ørberg (Amazon)
